Eye Gaze Hospitalar

Life for patients in the hospital environment can be overwhelming, stressful, frustrating and intimidating. These individuals are often faced with many challenges that accompany their illnesses or injuries that leave them incapable of accomplishing many of the basic activities most of us take for granted, including the ability to interact with others and the environment. Given the proper processes, procedures and technology, patients can overcome many of these barriers early in the recovery process, contributing to improved outcomes and quality of life while in the hospital setting.

Improving Patient Care through the Use of Assistive Technology

How We Can Help

The primary focus of the Healthcare Integration Program is to support the needs of patients in the hospital environment as they progress through the recovery process. By integrating solutions from Tobii Dynavox’s robust line of assistive technology products, healthcare settings can be better-prepared to meet the needs of the patients they serve and enhance the overall patient care experience.

Depending on the unique needs of your facility, Tobii Dynavox’s Healthcare Integration Program can:
  • Facilitate improved communication between hospital staff and patients who are communication-vulnerable (e.g.; aphasia and other communication disorders, locked-in syndrome, ventilator-dependent).
  • Increase patient independence with controlling the hospital room environment, including lights, televisions, hospital bed controls and nurse call systems.
  • Promote independent access to the computer, internet, social media and telecommunications.

Tobii Dynavox’s products can also be used to enhance assessment and treatment of patients in the hospital environment, and may also be used to help determine the long-term assistive technology needs of the client earlier in the recovery process.

Independence with an Eye

Tobii Dynavox is a subsidiary of Tobii, the global leader in eye tracking technology. Eye tracking is a technology that makes it possible for computers to know exactly where users are looking; therefore, instead of using a touch screen or a switch, patients can simply look at an icon on the screen of a speech generating device to make a selection or indicate an area of interest. Furthermore, patients can use this technology for full operation of Windows-based computers and tablets, allowing them to work with any application that is normally controlled by a standard computer mouse or finger motions on a touch screen.

Tobii Dynavox is proud to have served over 20,000 clients using eye tracking with a multitude of assistive technology applications.

Through the use of eye tracking technology, patients with severe motor impairments can now communicate and interact with their environments more independently – all with a simple look.
